jam of the day

jam of the day – day 155

today’s jam was a toss-up between the one i selected and a few other songs from the same band: paramore.

i remember when all we know is falling came out. i was twenty years old at the time, and i first saw the video for “pressure” while thumbing through the clearance section at american eagle at my local mall, first saw the cd in a hollister at a different mall (where i proceeded to buy it)…and to REALLY age myself… i vividly remember blaring “my heart” as loud as the speakers from my cd player would allow, while i putzed around on aol.

those were some good ol’ days. seriously, it was the year before i turned 21 and started walking the tightrope known as alcoholism.

before i share this song and its lyrics, i’d like to share something — i’m an atheist.

if this bothers you, i’m not going to apologize or try and justify my beliefs. so, please don’t try and convince me there is such thing as god, and i promise i won’t try and convince you that there’s not. i share this with you, because it’s a pretty well-known fact that at the end of the day, paramore is considered a christian band and have some songs that are definitely about religion. this song is one of them. it doesn’t mean the song impacts me any differently than it would any other person, it just means the song means something different to me than it would to a person who is religious. if that makes sense.

anyway, it’s a great song to turn up super loud, scream along with, and ultimately feel rejuvenated by the time the song ends.

What a shame we all became such fragile, broken things.
A memory remains just a tiny spark.
I give it all my oxygen,
To let the flames begin
To let the flames begin.

Oh, glory.
Oh, glory.
This is how we’ll dance when,
When they try to take us down.
This is what will be oh glory.

Somewhere weakness is our strength,
And I’ll die searching for it.
I can’t let myself regret such selfishness.
My pain and all the trouble caused,
No matter how long
I believe that there’s hope
Buried beneath it all and
Hiding beneath it all, and
Growing beneath it all, and…

This is how we’ll dance when,
When they try to take us down
This is how we’ll sing it.
This is how we’ll stand when
When they burn our houses down.
This is what will be oh glory.

Reaching as I sink down into light.
Reaching as I sink down into light.

This is how we dance when,
When they try to take us down
This is how we’ll sing it.
This is how we’ll stand when,
When they burn our houses down.
This is what will be oh glory.
